That was, and still is the normal practice.

@CristianaEmsley Unions have a history of opposing unjust laws and supporting the rights of minorities.

And there's nothing inherently anti-woman about supporting the rights of trans people. No matter what way you look at it, some women are trans.

If you want to consider that to be "throwing a strop", then I'm sure nothing I say will convince you otherwise.
