Youngest Senator. Legislator of the Year. When leadership is real
Today, I am deeply humbled to have been named Legislator of the Year by Independent Newspaper, on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee.
As this honour was being conferred, I was away in Türkiye at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), representing Nigeria alongside colleagues under the leadership of the President of the Senate. Though I could not be physically present, I was ably represented by my wife Netanela.
This award has led me to a deep introspection, recalling the words written by Sir Isaac Newton in 1675, wherein he stated that he was able to see further because he stood on the shoulders of giants.
Whatever recognition I receive is not mine alone. It rests on the vision and belief of leaders who have created space for a new generation to serve and to lead.
I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his vision and belief in young Nigerians.
I am equally grateful to the leadership of the Senate — the President of the Senate, His Excellency Godswill Obot Akpabio; the Deputy Senate President, Distinguished Senator Jibrin Barau; and the Senate Majority Leader, Distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, as well as all my colleagues, for their guidance, support, and unwavering belief in our collective responsibility to serve the Nigerian people with integrity.
To His Excellency, Governor Bassey Edet Otu, a man who spent 12 straight years representing his people effectively in parliament, I thank you Sir.
But beyond public life, there are quieter sacrifices that make this journey possible.
To my father and mother, who laid the foundation. To my dear wife, who stood in for me today and continues to carry so much with strength and grace and to my constituents, This honour belongs to you as much as it does to me.
As I reflect from afar, I am reminded that leadership is not measured by titles or awards, but by the lives we touch, the hope we sustain, and the future we help shape. This recognition only strengthens my resolve to do more.
God bless you all.

They call him Senator Asuquo but today, the name carries even more weight.
**Youngest Senator. Legislator of the Year.**
Not noise. Not hype. Just results.
In a space where experience is often measured by years, he is redefining it with impact, clarity, and fearless representation.
This is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
This is what leadership looks like when the next generation rises ready.
A man who has payed his dues, a man who has made sacrifices, a man who is a workaholic. I know Sen ASUQUO EKPENYONG personally and I can attest that he has never relented in his duties even for a second, always moving. Congratulations @A_Ekpenyong#senatorasuquoekpenyong
Independent Newspaper's Legislator of the Year going to a first-term senator should make older senators very uncomfortable. What is their excuse? Senator Ekpenyong came in and immediately raised the bar for everyone. #SenatorAsuquoEkpenyong
Winning Legislator of the Year while abroad on parliamentary assignment. 😂 This is peak Suki energy. The man hasn’t slowed down since 2023, Cross River South already knows, and now the nation does too. #SenatorAsuquoEkpenyong
Independent Newspaper has covered 25 years of Nigerian governance and they gave Legislator of the Year to a man from Cross River South who is in his first term. If that doesn't validate what Cross River South voters did in 2023 I don't know what does.#SenatorAsuquoEkpenyong
