Making my way back from appointment near London Drugs Cambie and Broadway to the bus, VPD pulls up and puts a black homeless guy in 'cuffs. He's stunned. Asks "what's this for?" Cop says "Someone says you spit on them". Guy: "what? I'm here minding my own business".
@FunFactsLulu I've had to postpone all the pre op investigation and the surgery for my wrist because they weren't able to book it for so long and are now overwhelmed, leaving me stuck on disability an extra 2+ years struggling to get by in pain. I feel this hard.
Photo documentation of @VancouverPD using extreme excessive force, attempting to mutilate the eyes and face of VANDU organizer Eli as he attempts to assist a bystander. Randy, who relies on a walker, was knocked down to the pavement by VPD constables.
I am rage shaking right now seeing the violence VPD brought to the downtown Eastside today. These are people with no where else to go, trying to stay near the resources that help them stay alive. I wish I was there to help you today💔
The SRO’s being burnt down / shut down has left hundreds homeless. ALL of their essential resources are in this area, doctors, food banks, clinics, injection site ect. They can’t just move away, they can’t leave their support system. #dtes
giving folks DTES garbage cans to put their personal belongings in sure does have a particular MCFD garbage bag for your personal belongings flavour to it
Randy, a VANDU member who relies on a walker, knocked down and swarmed by @VancouverPD constables. He was shouting to ask whether his dog, River, was okay. From @Ben_Nelms.
In a matter of minutes, nearly 100 @VancouverPD constables were unleashed on the scene. After brutalizing and arresting countless bystanders, the VPD exited the neighbourhood.
Constables continued to escalate the violence, deploying pepper spray and tackling bystanders. This video depicts a @VancouverPD constable punching a man in the head as he's being restrained by three other constables.
Constables formed a barricade on the street, pushing bystanders onto the sidewalk. Randy, an elderly man in a walker, was knocked down by @VancouverPD.
0:20: On the right side of the frame, a @pivotlegal observer is restrained with a chokehold for trying to assist Randy.
The violence began when security guards called VPD constables to assist in assaulting and hog-tying a DTES resident experiencing a mental health episode. At least five constables were on top the man.
TODAY at 2:45PM: @vancouverpd constables attacked and violently arrested DTES residents, VANDU and @pivotlegal organizers after a day of peaceful observation of the Hastings Tent City decampment.
Cops are going ham down here. Arresting activists. Evicting tents en mass, evicting people to nowhere, not the slow, calm process the city promised #DTES
People trying to save everything they own from the garbage while being taken out by 5+ officers each in the dtes Vancouver, despicable. Dragging people away like they're an actual threat to the hoard of armed officers on top of them. FUCK THE POLICE.
This is the "storage" option... and by @CityofVancouver's own admission, this is a temp/day solution. Word on the street is that no one has communicated to the residents where their belongings will go. What the labeling process is and how folks would access their stuff.
