Too often men feel they have to stay silent
This week is a reminder that they don't.
Today marks the start of Men's Health Week 2025.
This is an opportunity for you – as a HR or wellbeing expert – to put the spotlight on the physical and mental challenges men face.
Ultimately, men are more likely to suffer in silence due to stigma and perceptions of masculinity.
“Men’s Mental Health Week matters to me because too often men feel they have to stay silent.
"It’s a chance to remind us all that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.”
Ben Holmes, Founder of The Guiding Light Charity (@LightMHCharity).
So use this week as a platform for both you as an employee or employer to engage with men’s health in a way that drives long-term change.
To help, we've created a guide for HR - or anyone responsible for employee wellbeing. Find it in the comments.
Love our new table cloth! 💙
Keep an eye out for us at some events spreading the message that you are never alone. 💫
If you or someone you know needs support, text LIGHT to 85258 for free, confidential help 24/7.

Why is mental health still treated like it’s less important than physical health? We believe it’s just as vital and it's time the law reflected that. We’re demanding change. Mental health deserves equal support and care, equal protection, equal funding, and equal respect. https://t.co/JKxhNvQ2u4

As someone who struggled alone with his mental health when he couldn't find people to be open with, Ben @WeDoRecoverUK1 set up @LightMHCharity to give people the chance to find others who are like-minded, or going through something similar.

#EatingDisordersAwareness For years, I was trapped in the vicious cycle of bulimia obsessing over food, weight, and every number that controlled my life. Calories, the scale, the numbers consumed me.
What started as a way to "gain control" quickly spiraled into something that took complete control over me. Eventually, my body couldn’t take it anymore.
The damage caught up, and I was diagnosed with diabetes a painful consequence of years of self-destruction.
Suddenly, numbers weren’t just about weight; they were about blood sugar, insulin, survival. The irony?
The very thing I thought I could control had now taken over my life in an even bigger way.
Did you know?
👉 Eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses.
👉 Recovery is possible with support, compassion, and professional help.
👉 Comments about weight, food, and appearance can be triggering. Choose kindness instead.
Recovery hasn’t been easy. Learning to let go of the numbers, the guilt, the shame is a daily battle.
But I’m choosing to fight. Because I am more than a number. And so are you.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. You are not alone. Healing is possible. 388 days of #Healing for me! #Onedayatatime

🚨 Why is First Aid More Important Than Mental Health First Aid? 🚨
In every workplace, having physical first aiders is mandatory. If someone collapses or cuts themselves, trained staff are there to help. But what about when someone is having a mental health crisis a panic attack, a breakdown, or even suicidal thoughts?
Mental health struggles are just as real, just as urgent, and just as life-threatening. Yet, workplaces aren’t required to have Mental Health First Aiders.
Why?
We’re campaigning to change this. It’s time to make Mental Health First Aid a legal requirement because mental well being matters just as much as physical health.

For years, I battled silently with my mental health, trapped in a cycle of despair that often consumed me, especially at work. The pressure, the expectations, and the overwhelming feeling of not being enough pushed me to the edge. I searched for a way to escape not just from my job, but from life itself. The darkness was suffocating, and I felt like I had no way out.
The struggle led me down a dangerous path. Addiction became my coping mechanism, a temporary numbness to the pain I carried every day. Before I knew it, I had lost everything my home, my stability, and nearly my life. The weight of my mental health issues became unbearable, leading to an overdose that should have been my end. But somehow, I survived. That moment was a wake up call, a painful but necessary turning point.
Climbing out of the depths of that darkness has not been easy. Recovery is not a straight road, and the scars of the past still linger. But I share my story because I know I am not alone. Too many people suffer in silence, afraid to reach out, afraid to be judged. The stigma around mental health and addiction only makes it harder for people like me to seek help.
That’s why I urge you to share and support the petition I’m advocating for. It’s time to demand better mental health support, better workplace awareness, and better access to resources for those in crisis. No one should have to fight this battle alone, and no one should feel like their only way out is to disappear.
If you’re struggling, please know that there is hope. There is help. And there are people who care. You are not alone in this fight. Let’s stand together and make a difference.
