So the news of a temporary releases of a major logistical provider from Belgium, for the Bataclan attacks, after only 4 years of a 30 year sentence shocked me.

I decided to see what happened to the others who assisted.

Most of the direct shooters died. The one left, Salah Abdeslam, is in prison for “life” which means he can have parole after 30 years.

How about the others?

Farid Kharkhach (Belgian-Moroccan) was convicted of providing false documents and sentenced to only 2 years. He was immediately set free after the trial as he had served this time waiting for trial.

Hamza Attou: Helped pick up Abdeslam after the attacks. Sentenced to 4 years (2 firm/2 suspended). He was one of the three who appeared free during the trial and did not return to prison.

Abdellah Chouaa: Minor logistical role. Sentenced to 4 years (with 3 suspended, effectively 1 year firm). He appeared free during the trial, had time served covered, and was not re-incarcerated (or was quickly released)

Ali Oulkadi (“the man of the last kilometer”): Drove Abdeslam to a hideout post-attacks. Sentenced to 5 years (3 suspended). Effectively served time already spent and was released/not re-imprisoned

So the answer is: you can facilitate a mass murder of 130 innocent people and get virtually no time in prison.

How is that justice?

This is unbelievable. A travesty of justice.

One of the worst terrorist attacks in Europe was by Islamists at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris in November 2015.

Two men stormed the 1,500 person theatre where a concert was in progress. They fired indiscriminately at people, then hunted them down as people cowered in offices and cupboards. They even executed those who lay on the floor pretending to be dead.

130 people died that day. Hundreds were injured.

Mohammed Bakkali is a Moroccan-Belgian who was behind this attack (and the others that took place that night). He rented safe houses and provided cars for the Islamic State cell. He knew exactly what was happening and facilitated it.

In the 2022 trial in Paris he was sentenced to 30 years for his role.

And now comes the kicker.

When he was extradited from Belgium to face trial, there was a condition that he serve any sentence in a Belgium prison.

He has served 4 years and on 11 May the Belgium court granted him the right to leave six times for 36 hours each. In fact, it then came out that he has already had several day releases since 2025.

They cite his good behaviour and rehabilitation.

In Belgium, some prisoners only serve 1/3 of their sentence. Looks like for a Muslim who colluded in a heinous terrorist attack it is even less.

The French are furious. And rightly so.
