🏀Mavs Roster🏀
(Current, as-is, 15-man roster, without Klay)
Dallas Mavericks Roster & Rotation Breakdown:
1. The Locked-In Starters
Kyrie Irving: Primary ballhandler and creator. He will be an offensive engine with the ball in his hands.
Cooper Flagg: Two-way wing and secondary creator. Does it all.
Dereck Lively II: Paint defense, rim protector, and lob threat. If healthy, is slated to be day-1 starter, providing a vertical threat and interior defensive stronghold
2. The Guaranteed Rotation Players
Max Christie: POA defender and floor spacer. Likely day-1 starter, but not 100%. This year could change the trajectory of his career.
P.J. Washington: Stretch big and versatile defender. Likely day-1 starter, but not guaranteed. With Flagg and Lively starting, it might not be a perfect fit.
Naji Marshall: POA defender and slashing wing. Probably the person who comes in when Flagg is on the bench or out for a game. Can bring the ball up the court, create, and defend.
Daniel Gafford: Paint defense, rim protector, and lob threat. Spot starter when Lively is out. Should thrive with more ballhandlers on the roster.
Morez Johnson Jr.: Rebounder and interior finisher. Slated to start the season around player 10-11 on the roster, but due to his skill set and being a top-10 pick, should be guaranteed to be in the rotation whether it be at the 4 or 5.
3. Likely Day-1 Rotation
Sergio De Larrea: Backup ballhandler and facilitator. As it stands, he could very well be the player who dispels Kyrie when he is off the court. In his short span in Summer League, showed advanced abilities to create for others and (in int'l play) displayed the ability to knock down 3s at a high clip
Zaccharie Risacher: Scorer and floor spacer. A big question mark. The Mavs definitely want to see what he can do, and should give him the opportunity early in the season to play 2-4, depending on the match-up.
Santi Aldama: Stretch big and facilitator. Having a 7ft guy who can pull it out to three is now new for the Mavs, but is something we have been missing in recent years. LIke Risacher, this season is like a tryout for him to see if the Mavs have something unique who can add value to the roster going forward
4. The Reserves & Deep Bench
Marcus Sasser: Backup ballhandler and scorer. A microwave scorer or break-glass-if-needed type guy. Sasser should get minutes throughout the season, as Kyrie will miss time sporadically. He could possibly move the depth chart if de Larrea needs more time to improve.
Tarik Biberović: Floor spacer and shooter. He looks to be a deadly 3pt specialist. I think training camp will tell a lot as to how he plays along side these guys and how he stacks up against the competition. He is someone who could fly up quickly if his game is more than just outside the arc.
Caleb Martin: POA defender and wing. With the depth of wings and forwards, Martin likely falls to the end. When healthy, is likely the best POA defender on the team. He can handle the ball and push the pace.
Moussa Cissé: Paint defense and rebounder. The last in line of bigs on the roster. He will fall behind Lively and Gafford in terms of the true bigs, and lose opportunities to Morez and Aldama who should both get time at the 5. However, he should provide true depth at the big position, injury insurance, and finally, trade insurance, in the event someone ahead of him gets moved
