@JeanLeggett Such a great thread idea!
Hi all, I'm a forever gamer, been working 10+ in the game industry as a producer, love coaching teams and individuals and also an active member of @wig_fr to inform about diversity and inclusion. Let's bring more women of the industry together!
On September 28th I'll be talking about the place of women in the game & the movie industries together with Fabienne Silvestre-Bertoncini in a round table hosted by Erwan Cario at la BDI Pompidou in Paris during the Press Start game festival. See you at 4.30pm hope you join us!

the problem with industry-sanctioned harassment will never be solved by individual victims. it's not their job, it's not their fight, and they (we) will never enact systemic change by asking for it.
the problem isn't that there are abusers. the problem is that there are abusers who are allowed to continue being abusive, an organizational structure designed to allow them to continue their abuse, a community that protects them and that silences, mistrusts, condemns victims.
you aren't the bad apple, but you ignore bad apples? you pretend not to see them? or you see them and do nothing? you say it isn't your place, there's nothing you can do, you don't want to make waves or make it worse? you are the direct cause of harassment.
dudes who don't educate themselves on what sexism is, how harassment affects women and other minorities, and who don't put effort into seeing it. dudes who don't talk to each other, practice, and get better at noticing it and stopping it. they are the direct source of the problem
dudes in games who talk equality in public but don't listen to, believe, or back up the women in their lives are the direct source of this continued abuse.
hey hi industry harassment and systemic sexism is the direct result of regular dudes in games not taking a stand because they don't want to lose their friends, jobs, or network. it isn't bad apples, it's the barrel that holds them.
Video Games are having a #metoo moment. The toxicity from fans has been well documented for years but the toxic, abusive, predatory behavior between developers has mostly been spoken in whispers between trusted friends. I'm in awe of the bravery of those who have spoken up today.
Their bravery is going to give courage to other women and non-binary folks to speak up and you can rest assured that this is a massive problem affecting and caused by the developers who make the games you love.
So let me remind you: Believe women
This is a time when all the men who claim to be allies get to show their real values. If you work with or are in communities with predatory men speak up, speak to management, voice your concerns, demand consequences for predatory behavior.
If anyone is a survivor or feeling victimized and doesn't know where to turn I am here for you, and @femfreq is here for you. You can reach out to us at https://t.co/dUjv17hDMo and I'll open the @femfreq DMs to the public for a little while as well.
