21 June 1899 | Czech Jewish composer Pavel Haas was born. Student of Leoš Janáček. Among his notable works are song cycles & string quartets. In 1941 he was imprisoned in #Theresienstadt Ghetto where he also composed.
Pavel Haas was murdered in #Auschwitz on 17 October 1944.

Fascinating to watch this report, as I was on holiday in Brittany at the time and knew nothing of it till I got back. By then the newsworld had moved on. I first saw the postbox picture in a newspaper, I think on the 1st anniversary.

Travel back 109 years to the Golden Age of silent cinema. This is a rare colour photograph of Charlie Chaplin in his iconic "Tramp" costume outside his studio in Hollywood in 1917. I have cleaned-up and enhanced this precious Autochrome shot by the Rochester-based amateur photographer and furniture dealer Charles C Zoller (1854-1934). It was taken using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised. 📽️
