My glorious AF wife Kathryn helped with my latest campaign video. Whatever the polls say we have to stay calm and resolute in this fight, giving whatever time, money and power we can. Get active to get out the vote TODAY. https://t.co/JMq7rJIXuE #GOTV#createtheoutcome#VOTE
This is unconscionable. A country that evicts people during a pandemic has failed. An economy in which billionaires are wealthier and workers are poorer or unemployed during a pandemic is criminal. #COVID19
The @ManhattanDA charged this man being punched in the face with violent felony assault on the cop. The claimed injury was the *swelling to cop’s fist.* Read that again. Take it in. Then read this: This happens routinely. Prosecutors are shameless enablers of police violence.
so while it might not be the time to talk about the misogyny in publishing, I do hope that Conde reckons with ALL of their messed up pay practices because that shit gets my blood boiling every time I think about it.
No conversation about compensation at conde is complete without mentioning misogyny. As a white woman I was underpaid compared to male peers (BIPOC and white) so it stands to reason that female BIPOC are/were suffering even more.
AND when I moved to a mens mag, I discovered that basically every editor there was earning more than their peers at the women's mag – women (albeit white, bc, well, racism) with decades of experience in book and mag publishing.
It doesn't seem to be widely known yet that one of the cops who entered Breonna Taylor's home and killed her as she slept is an accused sexual predator (specifically, accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman). I hope this accusation gets the attention it deserves.
Once, when I was working for a publisher with a "zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination" I was told by a snr ed that I should stop fighting for a title bump because my peers (6 other white women) would resent me for it.
This is David McAtee.
He owned YaYa’s BBQ in Louisville, KY. He was in the barbecue business for 30 yrs and aspired to open up a brick & mortar restaurant. He fed cops who came by for free.
He was shot and killed by police today. His life mattered. #BreonnaTaylor#DavidMcAtee
“I’m not going to blame officers who were in an impossible situation. The protestors did the wrong thing to surround that car.” — De Blasio in a presser on NY1 tonight, on the horrifying video of a police car plowing into a crowd of humans in New York.
