South Carolina screwed its deployed troops  today.

Today, South Carolina Republicans are holding a runoff primary for a U.S. Senate nomination to replace the late Lindsey Graham. And in a state where one party dominates, that’s the whole ball game. 

And almost nobody had a say in how that seat got filled in the first place.

Graham died on July 11. Two days later the partisan governor appointed his sister! A person who had never served in government—or in uniform. This was after the president and the Senate majority leader publicly chose her. She was sworn in on July 14.

Three days, start to finish. A Senate seat in a state of five million, resolved inside one family and one phone tree. A corrupt process that never involved a single voter.

THE PART THAT SHOULD BOTHER EVERY VETERAN ESPECIALLY

Federal law requires ballots reach service members and Americans abroad 45 days before a federal election. A Marine or Sailor  on deployment near Iran cannot drive to a polling place.

South Carolina's calendar could not meet that requirement. The Trump Justice Department decided instead: ballots out August 1 for an August 11 election. Ten days to reach a destroyer in the Middle East (and everywhere else in the world) and come back marked.

And the United States government agreed not to sue over it. This is the apex of partisanship and party corruption.

A party's succession timeline on one side, the voting rights of deployed Americans on the other. 

The deployed Americans lost. And, per usual, especially independent veterans. 

And this is a veteran heavy state. South Carolina has roughly 345,000 veterans — 8.4% of every adult. Fort Jackson, Parris Island, Joint Base Charleston, Shaw–full of troops and vets

An estimated 165,000 independent vets.

AND THE DOOR IS CLOSING ANYWAY

South Carolina does not normally register voters by party. So the party switched the rules to rig the whole thing: anyone who voted in June's Democratic closed primary was barred from August's Republican one — where that primary is the deciding election.

Meanwhile the South Carolina Republican Party is in federal court, in a suit filed on July 4, asking a judge to close the state's primaries for good.

They are blocking us from voting today. And they want to block us forever. 

That is why @IndyVetsAmerica exists. To call them out, fight back, and demand an equal vote for all independents. And especially independent veterans. 

Most Americans have no idea!

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement Wednesday pushing back at JD Vance after he said Pope Leo XIV should ‘be careful’ when speaking about church teachings:
