my girl told me she was going out with her friends one night and she said she'd be home early. i didn't question it because I trusted her. around 2am she called me whispering, saying she was at her friend's house and her phone was about to die. the next morning she came over and started telling me the same story again without even me asking. that when I knew something was off because people who are telling the truth usually don't rehearse it that hard. eventually i found out she had been with another guy that night. she lost me over something she could've just be honest about from the beginning.
i remember doing everything I could to make her happy, even when i was the one hurting. I kept thinking if I loved her harder, things would eventually go back to how they were. but one day I realized I was the only one trying to save us. She had already moved on emotionally, I was still holding onto memories . Sometimes love isn't enough when only one person wants it to work.
lowkey the hardest part about losing her was realizing i was holding onto memories. not the person she became. i kept making excuses for her, thinking one day things would go back to how they used to be. whole time, she was getting comfortable with losing me, i was trying to save something she had already given up on, and that shit hurts more than the breakup itself.
