OK if u ever encounter a victim of penetrating injury (gunshot, stabbing)& want to render aid, this is what u do: do *not* waste time with useless heroic looking gestures like taking off ur shirt to soak up blood or whatever

Put your hands like this, these are CPR hands. Lock ur elbows. Apply pressure directly on the wound, the vector of force should point toward the heart or center of mass. Lean into the wound, hard. The patient will cry or scream in pain, may pass out from pain. Verbally comfort him but don’t let up on the pressure. Just keep elbows locked and push into the wound as hard as you can

Whatever’s bleeding will bleed slower, sometimes *much* slower, after well-applied pressure. And once EMS gets there they can give morphine& the patient won’t remember you hurt him. Harden your heart, save a life. Strong, direct pressure to all bleeding wounds
