Bungie is planning a much bigger future for Marathon, with new game modes, a social space, and an entirely new zone coming over the next few months.

The studio admitted that the extraction shooter didn't reach as many players as expected, and now wants to offer more ways to play beyond its original gameplay loop

-December: Permanent PvE mode, experimental deathmatch, and Bishop, a samurai-inspired Runner.

-December: A social space with a firing range, a Perimeter visual overhaul, more high-end loot, and a new Tick Queen boss fight.

-March 2027: A new zone, alien enemies, improved onboarding, progression changes, and more focused quests and narratives.

Bungie says it wants Marathon to offer more ways to play, whether you prefer PvE, PvP, or the original PvEvP extraction experience.
The studio knows the constant risk of losing your progress doesn't appeal to everyone, so it's working on different experiences

Vance referred to the Monroe Doctrine, a US foreign policy that requires that the US control the Western Hemisphere. We’ve seen the result of that with coups d’état, ass*ssinations, invasions and kidnappings, as in the recent case of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
