LEDET Hosts Capricorn District World Wetlands Day Celebration
Today, LEDET proudly hosted the Capricorn District World Wetlands Day and Environmental Management Capacity Building Workshop at Rantshu Primary School in Mashashane Village, Polokwane Local Municipality.
Wetlands play a crucial role in protecting biodiversity, enhancing water quality, and supporting community livelihoods — making their conservation everyone’s responsibility.
The Marula Festival remains an important part of our province’s heritage, and we will communicate future updates as recovery progresses.

POSTPONEMENT OF THE 2026 MARULA FESTIVAL TO PRIORITISE RECONSTRUCTION IN BA-PHALABORWA LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
The Limpopo Provincial Government has taken the difficult but necessary decision to indefinitely postpone the 2026 Marula Festival.
All festival‑allocated funds will be redirected to:
• Reconstructing damaged roads
• Rehabilitating critical infrastructure
• Restoring essential municipal services for communities and businesses
MEC Tshitereke Matibe met with the LEDA Board and subsidiaries today for the annual accountability and strategic planning session at the LEDET Head Office. The discussion included a review of last year’s performance and a six‑month turnaround plan for the 2026 financial year.
LEDET MEC Tshitereke Matibe, hosted the Spaza Shop Support Fund Engagement Workshop at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in Polokwane today. The fund was officially launched in Tzaneen in July 2025. However, since its launch, implementation has proceeded at a slow pace.
The engagement aimed to explore ways in which government institutions can support the Spaza Shop sector through both financial and non‑financial interventions, and to assess existing bottlenecks, strengthen intergovernmental coordination,
(Encephalartos transvenosus), the very reason the reserve was proclaimed.
These towering cycads — sometimes called the “forest royalty” of Limpopo, have stood here for centuries, making the reserve a living museum of prehistoric beauty.
