“Zoned C-MX-8; build up to 8 stories!”
Where are those 8 stories going to go? I hate tweeting shit like this and then being labeled a NIMBY but the tallest building on this block is 4 stories. One block away on a bus line is a 10 story building. That makes sense there.
It's YIMBY vs. LocalDemocracy, and when has anything "trickle-down" brought Black, Brown, and Low-Opportunity communities anything but a permanent underclass. Any rent caucus led by real estate lobby evangelists (#YIMBY) has already been gentrified, so we launched our own ballot initiative to bring power back to the people. Our Neighborhood Voices from #Emeryville to EastLA is coming for Sacramento.
I wanna thank the hardcore YIMBYs who interacted with me today.
You reminded me just how insanely committed to developer profits you are. I don't think I understood how many of you are just Ayn Rand simps.
@loganb @RebeccaForBART Sigh. You can start with Kaviti et al. (2019) if you're actually interested.
White guys are the most capable of meeting their own transportation needs. We shouldn't be dedicating new public funds to serving them.
@AndrewDLewis Who are you to make that decision about others?
Hitler used racial purity as his excuse to remove undesirables. Is your excuse getting more student housing for your sainted UCLA?
No comment for the moment on the developers - but get ready for traffic armageddon on the Peninsula. And thanks to @Scott_Wiener, @MattHaneySF and others - there is nothing local elected officials can do to stop it. That's why we need to bring democracy back to local planning!

@RBReich @StevijoPayne Reagan was the beginning of the end for the middle class. Ruined the farm economy of my home state. Ruined the economy of my hometown. Ruined the family farm. Created a path for the millionaires to become billionaires.
@FreeDanneskjold@GretaThunberg Your post describes weather, not climate. You know the difference, right?
Texas has doubled its days over 100F per year in the last decade...that is an example of climate change.
Quit attacking Boomers. Dianne Feinstein is a part of the Silent Generation. She was born on June 22, 1933, which falls within the birth years of the Silent Generation (born between the mid-1920s and mid-1940s).
@lizgreenspan @kiangoh Folks in my neighborhood that started as concerned homeowners in public hearings opposing apartment buildings, and now they are on the city council writing zoning codes to protect their own and other neighborhoods from apartments too. Grassroots organizing gets the goods! ✊
Such a weirdly dismissive take. Community organizers organize far beyond "solar panel on the laundromat." And no transformative change happens without grassroots building and support. We saw that the last time US tried significant top down approaches to social and spatial change.
Cope levels are at 100 when you call the co-founder of the MIT center for real estate a “random economist” because he even slightly disagrees with your propaganda on market rate housing development. YIMBYs LOVE credentialism until someone with credentials disagree with them. 💁🏻♂️
it takes an incredible amount of privilege and money to live life never using a car
why is there zero nuance or balance in this discourse?
not every parent wants to shepherd their kids around on a bike
not every elder wants to cycle with their groceries
not by a long shot
YIMBY: Developers & landlords are separate groups with opposing interests
Me: But they are literally the same companies
Y: That makes no sense. Economically their interests are opposed. They can't be the same
Me: And yet, they are
Y: No. That would be stupid
Me: And yet...
