TRAXTION INVESTS R3.4BN IN SA RAIL

Traxtion has announced a landmark R3.4-billion investment in South Africa's freight logistics sector, aimed at acquiring 46 locomotives and 920 wagons.

This investment, the largest in private freight rail, is fully-funded by equity and debt financing.

It supports the government’s railway reform programme, aiming to introduce independent operators and break Transnet’s monopoly.

The investment will enhance rail capacity by 4.5 million tonnes annually, create 662 direct jobs, and boost domestic manufacturing.

Traxtion CEO James Holley (pictured) noted the project’s potential to transform South Africa's rail environment and improve logistics efficiency, indicating strong confidence in the sector's future.
