When I was 27 and had no kids yet, I was at a grill party with a friend who was pregnant.

After we finished eating, we were sitting around the table when she asked if I wanted to feel the baby kick.

I said yes.

She guided my hand to the right spot on her stomach. The moment I placed it there, I felt a little foot push firmly against my palm.

That tiny, strong movement hit me so deeply. My eyes instantly filled with tears, and I couldn’t hold them back.

This is what babies do to a woman. They move us — and we know, deep down, this is what we want. At least I did.
