@TimothyImholt I don't like Ben Shapiro. Just hearing his voice makes my head hurt.
But in context of the argument. Should we be paying healthy people to retire at 65?
That is a different question than should someone themselves retire with their own means at 65.
I plan on retiring at 58 myself.
@Erius777@brad_polumbo When Democrats are in power they opposed it. Currently it's a political football for the side with less power as it's a tool for the side with more power.
@brad_polumbo Open Source digital systems that crunch the data and build the districts with open data. Basically it needs to be so transparent that even skilled private citizens can reproduce the results. Then each state would have to adopt it, since districting is part of state legislation.
@pureMetatron Ended versus Made Illegal is a better distinction. Sadly it still exists, and is even rampant inside the US due to the lax Biden immigration era.
@pureMetatron People who throw what they perceive as insults shouldn't be engaged with silence and disengagement are the best choice for most.
Now if you are talking philosophy and they offer that up honestly, you can counter and talk about it.
Of course everything is not a mental health problem. Absolutes don't exist, especially across populations.
A portion is serious mental health.
A portion is poor upbringing and no concept of the tools to escape homelessness.
A portion is choice to live outside the standards of society.
There is a lot of overlap too. Those who have all three going on are the worst cases and most expensive to handle. They are also likely untreatable.
So then the choices are we take them in as wards (expensive), let them live on the streets (safety issue), or run them into the wilds (natural but harsh).
Mental illness steals agency.
Someone with a psychosis like schizophrenia isn't making choices, they are reacting to broken stimuli.
Those who are seriously drug addicted also have lost the ability to make choices. They are now drug acquisition machines.
Those who just gave up working are a different story. That decision is kind of rare though. Living on the streets is hard and not something many rational people choose.
I do think there is space for people to go live in nature in this country, but not to live in urban centers as homeless.
@vashnick0091@Timcast Your kind of compassion isn't compassion at all. It's allowing them to rot in mental health issues while feeling you are respecting their choices, which you just admitted are a choice.
Being homeless is multifaceted, drugs are a major part of it, but serious mental health issues are the real core of it.
That being said, allowing them to be homeless is also refusing to treat their mental illness.
Cities should either move them into conservatorship or force them out.
I think it's fine to be homeless if it's a choice, but it's not fine to be homeless due to mental illness and to create externalities inside a populated area.
From my perspective in the Army of Marines they were always in hand me downs, riding around in things they didn't own and eager to blow steam in a fight.
But in a sustained fight all that falls apart sadly. Great shock troopers, terrible meat grinder troops.
I do like the joke, Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential though. Always made me laugh even if the Army had more DADS troops (Dumb As Dog Shit)
@stephenasmith Fraud and Corruption.
A political system is only as good as it's ability to resist corruption. That is why centralized systems and monarchies fail, they are easy to corrupt.
Republics are harder to corrupt but need cleaning from time to time. We have neglected the cleaning.
@pirooooon3 Never abolish your culture to satisfy those who are not part of your culture. Culture matters more than anything else. It is the number 1 predictor of anything you will produce as a group. Many types of cultures exist, some bad, some great. Bland and sterilized cultures are bad.
@tuuu28283 "Hello" is the most generic. More formal is "Good Evening" or "Good Morning".
But each region has a slang greeting as well. Southern US has Howdy and Good Day. Southwest might Spanglish with Hola or Heya. More urban areas might have What's Up?
@OfficialPCMR If it's a shared commons, it must be policed and curated. If it's a private space then they can do as they will.
Single player games, I don't care if they install the "All Nude Characters that look like Barbara Walters pack".
They will be judged harshly if they post screenshots.
@LeeTheLost@paleochristcon Electric shavers and toothbrushes have good motors for it even. I actually have a book called the Mad Scientist Drone Kit. Teaches you how to make drones out of household items.
