I'm working on this film about a missionary who has been traveling to Haiti for 37 straight years on medical mission trips. She is now 78 and wants to make one last trip.
@MattModderno I don’t know laws with regards to college athletics, but doing that to a referee in a youth game would subject you to arrest, and depending on state, a potential felony charge (although unlikely as there’s no apparent intention to injure).
Humans who have to spend most of their energy on fulfilling basic survival needs have have little, if any, energy and strength to protest. Poverty is a deliberate strategy.
Poverty is not accidental. It's by design. It strips humans of both agency and dignity. And, the 'threat' of poverty/loss are essential tactics in creating complicity.
When you have buried your own child--far too young-- you incur a bound with the grief from every parent who has stood over that casket. How my heart aches and bleeds for this Mom and Dad.
@olskool888 Thank you for this post. Always been in awe of you since the first time we faced you in a Western League game when I was a 10th grader. And, of course: #BruinPride
This is Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney. He and nine others were murdered during a Bible Study at Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina. His murder was framed as a 'lone mental health matter,' effectively de-politicizing an act that was clearly political. In a Christian nation, why wasn't thia event framed as an attack on Judeo-Christian values?
There was almost no "I have a dream' moment. In 1958, a black woman named Isola Curry stabbed MLK. And, a group of Georgians (to show appreciation) sent her 'envelopes' ' of cash--a kind of pre-cursor to GoFundMe. I can't imagine what this man endured.
Americans are so easily manipulated by the 'theatre of scarcity.' Scarcity is often engineered because it quickly pits one group against another. Engineered 'scarcity' is just another tool to facilate chaos.
My father was presented a bronze star for valor for his actions on D-Day during WWII. The contributions of Blacks to the Allied victory and furthering U.S.aims can never be dissolved or diminished.
Thanks to multi-media producer @Kaylyn Hill for sending me this BTS footage from a movie we shot earlier this year. #OnHallowedGround-Story of Martyrs Park
George Hardy--Tuskegee Airman-- was flying strafing missions over eastern Europe at age 19. He was the last surviving airmen to have flown combat missions in WWII. The Congressional Black Caucus honored his life. He died ,this falll, at 100.
Today marks 13 years since I lost my son, Jordan.
Since I got the call that changed my life forever – the call that no parent should ever receive.
In the wake of unimaginable loss, I joined countless families across America who have turned pain into purpose — fighting for the safety our children deserve and the futures they should still have.
Since coming to Washington to serve Georgia’s families, we’ve taken meaningful steps forward and passed the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
These victories are steps toward the world Jordan should still be living in, one where every child grows up without the threat of gun violence hanging over their heads.
I will forever be Jordan’s mother and his story is forever my driving force. Jordan’s death is my reminder of why we must never stop this work.
Each day, I fight so that no other family has to answer that call. So that no other parent has to know this grief.
There’s so much more left to do. 🧡
