@huanting_ong@nano_jenn@MBIsg Together, both studies demonstrated that #spatialomics can now be extended by mechanical measurements. We highlighted that tissue stiffness matters across species, ages and pathologies and should therefore be considered more regularly in clinical and fundamental research.

We probed 20 µm, adjacent cryosections from 10 colorectal cancer liver metastasis patients. Using AFM and Visium Spatial Transcriptomics we created high-resolution stiffness and gene expression maps that we spatially registered via a custom image registration pipeline.

Returning from #LINO25 inspired by science. I am very grateful to the Nobel Laureates, organisers, guests, and fellow Young Scientists for fostering such an open, supportive environment filled with curiosity and drive for meaningful research.
First ever poster presentation done ! #EESMechanobiology is so much fun and the talks and science is amazing! 🤩 Looking forward to day 3!
Btw, Check @Lindithium (poster 56) tmw on the cancer Biomechanome
Congratulations Alba Diz-Muñoz!
The EMBL Heidelberg group leader received the @cziscience Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration Award. It will support her research on harnessing mechanics to immunomodulate microglia and fight neurodegeneration.

I am looking forward to presenting the importance of mechanobiology in an accessible way. If you are visiting the #BUGA23 consider stopping by for my talk: Mechanomedizin – Warum wir nach “Weichmachern” für Tumore suchen

Thank you @ResearchLifesci for organizing the Science Splash. It was an amazing event for networking, knowledge exchange and hearing about exciting research.
🌟Power of Many🌟
Each year the PhD students of EMBL can pick the most promising topic in current biology for the EMBL PhD Symposium.
This year we’ve chosen to organise a symposium about collective behaviour across scales. Join us 20th to 22nd of November!

Have you suffered from a runny nose recently? Mucus – more colloquially known as snot – often contains antimicrobial substances. Mucus in the mouse colon can be visualised using Alcian blue staining, as imaged here by EMBL predoctoral fellow Linda Decker.
