@PharmNate@ToEndAddiction This is still an open question and why affordability is a huge concern. The federal gov has said they will address cost issues in Medicare & Medicaid but no details have been released. OTC is a great first step for increased access but a lot of work to be done on cost.
Today the FDA approved Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal drug, for over-the-counter sale. While this is a long overdue and welcome decision, additional efforts are needed to ensure the medication is affordable so that it's widely available to save lives.

All health care providers should receive training in substance use prevention to ensure future generations of health professionals are well equipped to break our nation’s cycle of addiction crises. We explain why in @Health_Affairs https://t.co/33PD633lhY
In their new Forefront article, Linda Richter, @LindseyCVuolo + @robyn_oster from @ToEndAddiction discuss how health care providers should be equipped with the training and tools to prevent substance use before it starts. https://t.co/gLapVdUG7i
Families helping their loved ones overcome addiction deserve our support. @SenCapito and I will reintroduce the Family Support Services for Addiction Act to provide $25 million in grants to organizations that supply these critical resources to families. https://t.co/KC7w7MvWm5
Gov efforts to help communities adversely affected by marijuana commercialization may inadvertently harm youth and people of color by encouraging the marijuana industry to target those same communities in their marketing efforts. See @AMJPublicHealth https://t.co/pNoAhfggXD
@Gregs_Dad @ToEndAddiction@ariabendix Absolutely right @Gregs_Dad. This change was long overdue and happened because of tireless advocacy, particularly by the individuals and families impacted by addiction.
In the midst of an unprecedented opioid crisis, we should be doing everything we can to make it easier for patients to obtain life-saving treatment for opioid use disorder. Eliminating the x waiver is an important first step. Thanks to @ariabendix for covering this change.

A new nationwide survey shows lot of primary care docs 'fear' #opioid#Rx use among patients during COVID-19. What does that say? Experts agree: They *still* don't have enough education about addiction. Check out this story: https://t.co/a0LwetLefd via @Enquirer
Well-written & thorough piece by @scottbix. Honored to be included. Partnership VP of Health Law & Policy @LindseyCVuolo: "Substance use prevention needs to start much earlier in a child’s life & be more broadly focused on healthy youth development." https://t.co/ykeKnLa3eJ

100,000+ Americans just died of drug #overdose in a 1 yr period.
As a pediatrician, I want to be clear: We don't currently have a clear long-term national prevention strategy in place to prevent today's youth from becoming tomorrow's overdose statistics.
Thanks for shining a spotlight on this important topic, @TaRhondaThomas!
@LindseyCVuolo: "We really need to fundamentally change the way we address addiction in this country."
We need to take compassionate, evidence-based approaches to address the opioid crisis. Thank you to @TaRhondaThomas for including me and @ToEndAddiction in your story.
