Some thoughts.
I don't know how long this thread will be, so roll with me here.
This has the potential to be a *very* toxic day on this shit-site. Which is saying something.
Announcing a project that I’ve been working on with @JHUPress for the past few years - Building Breakthroughs - a book that’s a third story telling, a third historical context, and a third research/analysis on recent medical innovation in the cell and gene therapy space. (1/6)
I hope the book helps people that aren’t deeply familiar with the field understand the time of medical innovation we’re in a provide context on the process. Here’s a picture of @lindseyhack and I with the kids and the first advance copies! (4/6)
Sad news. Barbara Ehrenreich, my one and only mother, died on September 1, a few days after her 81st birthday. She was, she made clear, ready to go. She was never much for thoughts and prayers, but you can honor her memory by loving one another, and by fighting like hell.
In Vogue’s September issue, @serenawilliams prepares to say farewell to tennis on her own terms and in her own words. “It’s the hardest thing that I could ever imagine,” she says. “I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next” https://t.co/6Zr0UXVTH1
I couldn't be more proud of our students who eloquently spoke about the horrors of school shootings today. I feel we are in good hands with this young generation! #Walkout#CougarNation
The issue is money in politics.
They’re allowing children to die because of the gun lobby.
They’re allowing the planet to die because of Big Oil.
They’re allowing people to go without healthcare and die because of the insurance lobby.
Inaction is bought.
I’ve been working on this for four years and spent every day studying in college the history of how we got here, political science, behavioral economics, and reflecting on how we win.
Mark my words. This time will be different.
CONFIRMED: The Texas school shooter used an AR-15 assault rifle. Sorry Republicans, but I’m pretty sure that when they wrote the 2nd amendment, the Founding Fathers were NOT referring to assault rifles that can shoot DOZENS of elementary school CHILDREN at once.
These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it?
It’s time to turn this pain into action.
ICE is on the scene of a shooting that took place in a heavily Hispanic school so undocumented parents have to consider arrest deportation before they go check to see if their kids are alive. What a fucking country.
If you don't think Donald Trump could reemerge as a formidable candidate for the presidency in four years, you haven't been watching the last four+ years.
While today’s terrible display of terror and meanness shakes us, let’s remember: @ossoff, Jewish son of an immigrant & @ReverendWarnock, first Black Senator from Georgia, will join a Catholic POTUS & the first woman, Black + Indian VP in our nation’s capital. God bless America.
