I don't think Joseph expected to live for that long, especially with the knowledge of the Joestar curse. Once learning more about how his grandfather died in such a heroic way I am sure that was planted in Joseph mind throughout the entirety of battle tendency (+)

@underseajelly To decide for himself what he wants to do, Okuyasu gains enough will to start living again. So i guess you can argue its more of a break of death situation but Okuyasu breathing and heart def stopped for a little bit
