Breathing in through your nose for the count of 5, and exhaling out through the mouth (pursed lips) for the count of 10, can prevent anxiety and panic and regulate the nervous system. Practice this each day so it becomes natural.♡

RT @CACRadicalGrace: For @RichardRohrOFM, when we surrender to love in the present moment, we encounter the flow of Divine Presence: "Prayer is not primarily saying words or thinking thoughts. It is, rather, a life stance." #DailyMeditations https://t.co/0qAztRVq1T
A survivor doesn’t need to hear that their abuser was probably also abused, or is struggling with their mental health. The moment a human feels entitled to another persons well-being, their reasons are secondary. The protection & care of who they’ve hurt, must be top priority.
Feeling misunderstood can be highly triggering for someone who grew up in an environment where they were not accepted, or had to hide important parts of themselves out of survival.
RT @CACRadicalGrace: @RichardRohrOFM points out how the Bible is filled with stories of people encountering God—regardless of whether they got everything right or everything wrong! "This is why Jesus stands religion on its head..." #DailyMeditations https://t.co/olvykXLpVe
The late Bishop Desmond Tutu understood our interdependence with each other as part of what it means to live in the image of God. As Bishop Tutu told me, “We are only the light bulbs, Richard, and our job is to remain screwed in!” #DailyMeditations https://t.co/HWMI21muPq
RT @CACRadicalGrace: Today @RichardRohrOFM names some of the realities that have been “unveiled” in recent decades, and a path forward. "Religion has always said that an authentic God encounter is the quickest and truest path to wisdom." #DailyMeditations https://t.co/fNMOtnW399
@d_l_mayfield And to think, scripture is FULL of calls from our Father to bring Him our questions. Ask, seek with our whole hearts and minds. If only we didn’t make Him into a God too small for our real, full selves. Thankful He’s still teaching me this!
Traumatic experiences have immediate impact & convince us the intensity we feel is our new normal. It’s not. It’s hard, but reminding yourself that you’re a human being, trying to make sense of something that wasn’t supposed to happen helps name trauma & honor your response to it
2/ "...because ADHD shows decreased dopamine & norepinephrine in the dorsal prefrontal cortex & anterior cingulate. So I think there's a connection between these two. That's why we see a lot of ADHD and PTSD."

@FrankAndersonMD "Panic and grief are associated with the opioid system, oxytocin, and prolactin." Those emotions can feel very much like opiate withdrawal, even for people who have never touched opiates. This also tells us a lot about why people with complex trauma often end up opiate addicted.
