The victim of the deadly ICE shooting in Maine has been identified as 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero, the father of a 3-year-old girl.

Guerrero was authorized to work in the United States, had been issued a Social Security Number, and was not the intended target of ICE operations.

This development makes this tragedy even more disturbing and infuriating, and it underscores the reckless and haphazard manner in which immigration enforcement operations are being conducted in Maine and across the country. This has to end.

Last week in Texas. This week in Maine. President Trump and ICE are killing people, scaring communities, wrecking our economies, and doing lasting damage to America.

As someone who prosecuted serious crimes and put away criminals, and who worked alongside federal agencies, I’m disgusted.

There needs to be an investigation and accountability. ICE is making us all less safe, and the consequences continue to be deadly. It needs to end.
