⭕️ REPORT | UAE-backed Colombian mercenaries flew drones, trained soldiers, and were present during the RSF's takeover of El Fasher
Colombian mercenaries operating through a UAE-backed network provided critical military support to Sudan's Rapid Support Forces during the October 2025 capture of El Fasher, according to a new report by the Conflict Insights Group.
Using commercially available advertising technology data, satellite imagery, and flight-tracking, CIG tracked over 50 devices associated with Colombian mercenaries operating in Sudan in 2025. They corroborated their findings with US Treasury Department statements, Colombian media reports, and social media videos.
The report details three cases tracing a pipeline that moved mercenaries from Colombia through staging points in Somalia, the UAE, and Libya before deployment to Darfur.
The mercenaries were associated with the "Desert Wolves" brigade who were employed by Global Security Services Group, a UAE-based company linked to senior Emirati government officials. The brigade's leader is a US-sanctioned retired Colombian army colonel based in the UAE.
Their roles included:
▪️ Flying drones from a remote South Darfur location 5km from a potential manmade runway, connecting to Wi-Fi networks named "DRONES" 14 times over a month
▪️ Training RSF troops and child soldiers
▪️ Operating as artillerymen and instructors throughout the El Fasher siege
▪️ Direct presence in El Fasher during the October 26 takeover, with one device connecting to a Wi-Fi network named "ATACADOR" (Spanish for "attacker”)
The mercenary pipeline ran through three staging points:
▪️ Bosaso, Somalia: the UAE-funded Puntland Maritime Police Force compound, where CIG identified 40 Spanish-language devices between April and December 2025
▪️ Ghayathi, Abu Dhabi: a UAE military training facility where a 2021 UN panel of experts confirmed mercenaries were previously trained under Emirati military supervision
▪️ Kufra, Libya: an RSF logistics hub where CIG identified a 14-fold surge in Il-76 cargo flights beginning April 2025
The fall of El Fasher was followed by mass atrocities. More than 460 patients were killed at the Saudi Maternity Hospital. RSF soldiers filmed themselves executing elderly civilians.
The ICC Prosecutor has concluded war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed. CIG’s report assesses that the UAE-Colombian network bears shared responsibility for these outcomes.
