This is the response by the Honourable Attorney-General of the Republic of Ghana to the joint statement issued by the Bar Council of England and Wales (@thebarcouncil) and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (@cla_lawyers) on August 14, 2025, regarding the suspension of the Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude A.E.S. Torkornoo, C.J., from the office of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.

So why would a Law Association call for Ghana to break its own law? If the CJ is truly innocent due process is her path to vindication. So why push for reinstatement before the investigation ends? Who is afraid of the truth? 🤔🤔🤨

Our constitution allows suspension pending investigation to protect the integrity of our judiciary. External pressure for reinstatement before the process ends is disrespect to our sovereignty.
The Law is THE LAW. Let the law work!

The suspension is not an act of punishment but a constitutional safeguard to protect the process from undue influence or obstruction. Reinstatement before investigation concludes would actually violate Article 146-10 unless the committee clears her of wrongdoing.

We’ve lost 8 precious lives including Dr. Omane Boamah and Hon. Murtala Mohammed. A national tragedy.
My heart goes out to the families of all the souls lost in this devastating crash.
