In conclusion, concealment of deployment-related experiences may have problematic effects on the relationship, and on both partners’ mental health. The effects of disclosure may be related to other factors.

We studied disclosure and concealment of deployment-related experiences among Israeli military couples. Concealment was related to worse mental health and relationship in various ways. Disclosure was unrelated to the three outcomes.
