• Greek mythology is a collection of ancient stories featuring gods, heroes, monsters, and legendary kingdoms. The gods often intervene directly in human lives.

• Troy was a powerful city that fought a famous war against the Greeks.

• The Trojan War lasted 10 years. A coalition of Greek kingdoms laid siege to Troy.

• The Trojan Horse was a giant wooden horse devised by Odysseus. Greek soldiers hid inside it while the rest of the army pretended to sail away. The Trojans brought the horse into their city, and that night the hidden soldiers emerged, opened the gates, and Troy fell.

• After the war ended, the Greek kings and warriors began their journeys home. The Odyssey follows Odysseus's long and dangerous voyage back to his kingdom of Ithaca.

Key mythological figures:
• Zeus – King of the gods.
• Athena – Goddess of wisdom and Odysseus's protector.
• Poseidon – God of the sea and Odysseus's greatest divine enemy.

If you know these three things, you're well prepared:
1. The Greeks won the Trojan War.
2. Odysseus was the mastermind behind the Trojan Horse.
3. He's trying to return home after the war while the gods influence his fate.
