I think one of the healthiest things a person can do is become easy to delight. To still stop for weird clouds and dogs wearing bandanas and the smell of garlic cooking somewhere down the street. The world already has enough cynicism. Be the person who still points at the moon.
My partner is incredibly observant, which is usually terrifying.
Last week, I asked him what my most "attractive" habit was.
I expected him to say something about how I dress up for date nights.
Instead, he said: "When youโre grocery shopping and youโre trying to decide between two brands of cereal."
"What do I do?" I asked.
"You hold one in each hand like you're weighing gold. Your eyebrows knit together. You start aggressively whispering the ingredients to yourself. And then you do a little half-nod when you pick the winner."
He told me watching my brain work on something so utterly mundane makes him want to buy me the whole grocery store.
Human approval is unstable. Someone may praise you today and criticize you tomorrow, so it's wiser to anchor your life in deeper principles than in other people's opinions.
Working in education showed me 1st hand kids desire & flourish under structure once they become used to it. They don't like chaos, they like routines they can trust. That's safety to them.
