I'm writing an article about religious life for the local Catholic newspaper. I just ended every sentence in the first paragraph with an exclamation point. The vocation director in me is excited...the editor in me is horrified.
In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. In coming days, expected to get even colder. People canโt last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Waming? Please come back fast, we need you!
Two therapists in the past four years? Comms 101: leave out the info that hurts your case AND maybe start the letter with some sympathy. There's zero human emotion in this ... a topic that deserves perhaps the greatest amount of care and respect.
*gets 3 missed calls from Mom at 11am on a weekday*

*calls Mom back with racing heart*
Mom: Hey sweetie. Do you remember Erin Gonzales from Girl Scouts? I think I just saw her at Costco.
Note to writers: "Amazing" is very tired. "Amazing" needs a long vacation. Therefore, please don't write about your amazing party, your amazing girlfriend's amazing dress, or your amazing vacation. Something more pungent & specific, please.
