Join us in celebrating National Wildflower Week in the Sierra Nevada! 🌼 Wildflowers support our pollinators, contribute to a robust ecosystem, and add color to our beautiful landscapes. Take a moment this week to appreciate the wildflowers around you and help protect them!
California for All means real access to our state’s most extraordinary parks and natural spaces.
The state is building parks where there are none, cutting red tape, and growing a workforce that looks like California!
Nearly two centuries after the Southern Sierra Miwuk people were displaced from present-day Mariposa County, 900 acres of land west of Yosemite National Park have been returned to the tribe.

The Tahoe Conservancy is conducting prescribed burns today on 6 acres of Conservancy land in the Tahoe Hills neighborhood on the west shore, in collaboration with @CALFIREAEU. Visit https://t.co/539cvzOyWO to learn how prescribed fire helps improve forest & wildfire resilience.
A two-decade experiment in the Sierra Nevada showed that regular prescribed burns help forests store more carbon in large, fire-resistant trees while reducing wildfire hazard.
Key takeaways from the @UCBerkeley study:
➡️ Prescribed burns maintain large, fire-resistant trees and remove smaller “fuel ladder” vegetation that can drive high-intensity crown fires.
➡️ While each burn releases CO₂ in the short term, treated plots showed higher long-term productivity and carbon sequestration than unmanaged stands.
The findings suggest that low-intensity, repeated burning can help maintain forests that are healthier, more resilient, and better able to store carbon.

We continue to hit the sidewalks and boardrooms, talking with Californians in their neighborhoods and communities as we finalize Zone 0 regulations to protect people and places.
There is still plenty of time to engage & track the latest news.

We were grateful to host Calif. Natural Resources Sec. Wade Crowfoot along with state, regional, and local partners yesterday for a tour of Conservancy projects. The first stop was a forestry project on forested state and federal public lands in S. Lake Tahoe. @CalNatResources
State and county leaders, conservation groups and the Round Valley Indian Tribes gathered in Sacramento today to sign a groundbreaking MOU to restore the Eel River while ensuring water reliability for 600,000+ coastal Californians. 🌊🐟With PG&E set to remove outdated dams, nearly 300 miles of critical salmon habitat will reopen for the first time in over a century! This agreement balances water needs, tribal sovereignty, and ecosystem health—proving collaboration can solve even century-old conflicts. Watch Secretary @WadeCrowfoot speak about the significance of this MOU below, and read the press release at https://t.co/dy3hYgfluL.

A shockingly ignorant quote-tweet from the owner of the LA Times.
His own outlet confirmed none of this water went to LA, where water supplies are near RECORD HIGHS.
The feds rerouted unneeded summer water to Tulare — immediately triggering winter flooding fears for farmers.
Got an aerial look at both Eaton and Palisades fires with @CAL_FIRE colleagues on Saturday. It’s hard to wrap your mind around the scale of loss and the recovery time ahead. So grateful for first responders (at least 8,000) and teams on the ground now as we move into recovery.
Spent time with CalFire’s Damage Inspection Teams assessing homes impacted by Palisades and Eaton fires. This critical work helps property owners understand the status of their homes, and helps inform future wildfire mitigations.
California remains committed to recovery in #LosAngeles after the devastating fires.
Today, Secretary @WadeCrowfoot, CalConservation Director @JenLucchesi, State Geologist & the WERT team visited burn sites to address post-fire hazards to keep communities safe.
@CAGeoSurvey
Our thoughts and support are with the brave first responders and Angelenos facing the devastating fires raging in Southern CA.
The current fires emphasize our need to continue bringing the state together to put solutions to our 🔥crisis in motion.

The smoke you smell could be from a prescribed burn, a key tool for reducing future wildfire severity. Toggle the "prescribed fire" layer on the CAL FIRE map to see planned burns in your area. These controlled burns help preserve habitat & lower fire fuel.
The Klamath River restoration project has completed final in-river work to remove its dams!
By taking down these outdated dams, we're giving salmon & other species a chance to thrive while also restoring an essential lifeline for tribal communities.
