Alberta has refused to sign a joint statement with the other premiers and the prime minister on responding to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s potential tariffs.

Premier Smith rejected export tariffs on Alberta’s energy and products and opposed cutting off energy supplies to the U.S. She emphasized that Alberta won’t accept federal policies that hurt its economy and called for a national strategy to reduce Canada’s reliance on the U.S. as a primary customer.
