@BCDreyer My great grandmother told my mom to keep a robe nearby so, if awakened by a fire, you can slip it on and run out properly covered. Apparently a neighbor ran out of her burning house clad in only a nightgown and the town was scandalized by her state of undress
@thejackhopkins When I was in elementary school (5 and 6 grades), our PE class was swimming at a nearby indoor swimming pool. We were divided by ability and taught swimming and at the end of the year we got a patch. I was taught how to tread water, CPR, and how to save someone.
All the knitted and crocheted seascape pieces our volunteers made are being sewn down in the education center at PAAL. So far everyone is a crocheter. I am the sole knitter. I have a bag of crochet pieces to still sew down.
That moment when you are sharing memories with your cousin and realize her mom, my dad, and I crashed a big wedding while in New York and now 'everything' I remember about it makes sense.
@HillaryMonahan The only dog my family paid money for was a beagle puppy my dad bought for twenty dollars from a kid selling "puppies from good hunting dogs" at the gas station thirty-two years ago. The rest all found their way to us and were loved their entire lives.
@jelenawoehr We have a fig tree that survived a tree falling on it once that still produces buckets full every year. My aunt makes jams and cakes. I make fruit puree and give so much away each year. Three blueberry bushes. A handful's worth total in over a decade. Strawberries, one. I had one
@BBolander Many years ago we had a large cat I had rescued jump up on our dining room table and wrestle a roasted chicken off the table and drag it away to the living room. He hid behind large furniture, and attempted to eat it, growling the whole time. Then dog got involved. The mess...
@cwebbonline My dad would take me to a Saturday matinee and the library when I was younger. They were close together. We'd always stop at the library either before or after. I always had a stack of books and often we'd stay long enough for me to read whole novels.
@BrynnTannehill The Littlest Horse Thieves or Escape from the Dark in U.K. (1976) about three kids trying save the pit ponies in a mine. After a mine disaster, one pony saves the trapped men only to die in an explosion because it was blind and returned to its stall underground. I cried buckets
@magsrdoherty Husband and I got engaged in college. Told his RD we want to get married. RD's friend was a justice of the peace, called him and said, " Can you be at his shop in an hour?" It was an antique shop and our witnesses were 2 customers. Cost of licence. Married 35 years
All the “ADHD is over diagnosed” hot takes fail to consider that maybe our brains weren’t meant to live this way. Three generations ago my great-grandma was living a subsistence life in the bush. I just want to smoke some fish and pick some berries, not keep my inbox at zero.
