Earlier today, U. S. CENTCOM released a statement on recently fallen and missing U.S. service members in Jordan.

I join our nation and every South Carolinian in mourning two more American service members killed in action in Jordan. Their deaths bring the total number of U.S. military personnel killed since this war began to sixteen, with more than 420 wounded. These are not just statistics. These are lives cut short, families forever changed, and communities left to grieve.

The cost of this war extends far beyond our own service members whose legacy must be more than being caught in the crossfire of a conflict with no clear end.

The financial cost is also staggering. Internal Pentagon assessments put the true cost of this military campaign between $80 billion and $100 billion, nearly three times the disclosed amount. Independent analyses suggest the war has already exceeded $100 billion in direct military expenses. The reconstruction of U.S. military bases damaged by Iranian strikes alone could exceed $30 billion. 

These are dollars that could rebuild American infrastructure, fund our schools, lower healthcare costs, or provide much needed healthcare for every single one of our veterans.

We owe it to the families of the fallen, and to every American family paying the price of this war, to demand transparency, accountability, and a renewed commitment to diplomacy over endless escalation.
