Constraints on anaphora are derived based on discourse consistency and a pronominal existential inference interpreted relative to possible worlds in the local context.
Building on analyses of modal subordination, the paper introduces a flat-update dynamic semantics, where expressions with the potential to introduce a discourse referent do so globally, regardless of their embedding context.
Could a discourse be negative without explicit negation? The answer will *SHOCK* you!

Today is the last day for early-bird registration for @ESSLLI_official in Ljubljana. @patrickdelliott and I will teach a class about anaphoric accessibility and navigating non-veridical environments in dynamic semantics in week 2. check out the schdule: https://t.co/ulPDbF4Te3
@JhendersonIMB Any activity on campus crosses the picket line. The most supportive would be not to go to campus at all, except for participating in activities at the picket. If your students need feedback, you can meet off campus or on the picket as well
@tmalsburg but like in seriousness, yes it's part of digital literacy and probably the goal should be to achieve this for everyone period (not even limited to university)
Over-reliance on English hinders cognitive science: it has led to premature claims of universality (due to over-sampling of English speakers) and limited the cognitive constructs being examined (due to the use of English as a meta-language). https://t.co/XH56AS0B8K
@patrickdelliott nice this completely distracted me from my class prep :) but I have to say that I don't think the imperative thing is actually modal *subordination* (can we argue about this?)
Two pictures from a workshop last week in honor of the 80th birthday of Hans Kamp. So much love, respect and appreciation all around. Thanks to Judith Tonhauser, Daniel Hole, Jonas Kuhn and Antje Rossdeutscher for organizing such an amazing event.
