My 30-Day Web3 Researcher Skill-Building Plan
I've chosen Web3 Researcher as my career path because I enjoy researching projects, exploring new ecosystems, and understanding how things work beneath the surface.
But being a good researcher goes beyond reading whitepapers and following crypto trends. It means knowing how to separate facts from hype, verify information, understand tokenomics, identify potential risks, and communicate findings in a way people can understand.
Here's my plan for the next 30 days.
Week 1: Build the Foundation
Day 1: Understand the role of a Web3 researcher and the different areas I can specialize in.
Day 2: Learn how to read and analyze a project's whitepaper, documentation, and roadmap.
Day 3: Study blockchain explorers like Etherscan and learn how to verify transactions, wallet activity, and on-chain data.
Day 4: Learn how to evaluate a project's team, investors, partnerships, and claims without blindly trusting its marketing.
Day 5: Study tokenomics, including token supply, circulation, vesting schedules, unlocks, and utility.
Day 6: Research one Web3 project and document its purpose, technology, tokenomics, and potential risks.
Day 7: Publish a simple research thread on X explaining what I learned. Keep it factual and easy to understand.
Week 2: Learn to Analyze Projects
Day 8: Study the difference between fundamental analysis and technical analysis in crypto.
Day 9: Learn how to evaluate a project's real utility and the problem it claims to solve.
Day 10: Explore DeFi metrics such as TVL, trading volume, liquidity, and protocol revenue.
Day 11: Learn how to research wallets, token holders, and on-chain transactions without jumping to conclusions.
Day 12: Study common red flags, including suspicious token distributions, unrealistic promises, and questionable contract permissions.
Day 13: Compare two projects operating in the same sector. Identify their strengths, weaknesses, and differences.
Day 14: Publish a comparison on X, explaining which metrics matter and what the numbers actually tell us.
Week 3: Develop Research Skills
Day 15: Practice finding information from primary sources, including official documentation, governance proposals, blockchain data, and project announcements.
Day 16: Learn to cross-check claims using independent sources instead of relying on a single post or influencer.
Day 17: Explore tools such as DefiLlama, Dune, Token Terminal, and blockchain explorers. Understand what each tool can and cannot tell me.
Day 18: Learn the basics of governance research. Study proposals, voting power, voter participation, and how decisions affect a protocol.
Day 19: Investigate a project's competitors and analyze what makes its approach different.
Day 20: Choose one project and write a structured research report covering its purpose, technology, traction, tokenomics, competition, and risks.
Day 21: Turn the report into an X thread. Focus on explaining the findings rather than shilling the project.
Week 4: Build a Research Portfolio
Day 22: Pick a Web3 sector to follow closely, such as DeFi, infrastructure, AI agents, or decentralized physical infrastructure.
Day 23: Track one project's development, ecosystem activity, and important announcements using verifiable sources.
Day 24: Learn the basics of spreadsheets and organize relevant project data so I can compare changes over time.
Day 25: Study a failed or struggling Web3 project. Identify what went wrong and what the evidence supports.
Day 26: Write an investment-neutral research brief outlining a project's opportunities, uncertainties, and risks.
Day 27: Review my previous research and identify unsupported claims, weak sources, and areas where my analysis could improve.
Day 28: Publish my strongest research piece on X and invite people to challenge my findings.
Day 29: Organize my best work into a portfolio using Notion, Google Docs, or GitHub. Include links to sources and explain my research process.
