Should be Pardoned

Time to pardon ex-offenders whom have turned their lives around and deserving of a Pardon; & having a successful reentry with 20 years after their release.

Two weeks ago, I returned to Carswell for the first time since leaving in 2013 with the incredible team from @GodBehindBars.

Carswell was my home for more than a decade before I was transferred to another federal prison. Five years later, @RealDonaldTrump granted me clemency.

Walking back through those gates brought back a flood of memories. I stood outside the tiny cell where four women shared one small space and sat again where I studied, wrote plays, prayed, and dreamed about a future I could not yet see.

I missed my family every day.

But I never stopped living.

I made real friends, grew in my faith, helped other women with their legal cases, and tried to bring hope wherever I could.

The most moving moment was praying with the women and watching more than 60 of them be baptized. I wanted them to know that their story is not over—and that if they keep growing, keep believing, and prepare themselves, one day I hope I might have the privilege of bringing some of their cases to the President.

Thank you to God Behind Bars, @BOPDepDirector Josh Smith, Warden Tyal Rule, and the entire Carswell staff for welcoming me back and for the difficult work of making our prisons safer, more humane, and more focused on rehabilitation.

My second chance is why I devote my life to helping others pursue theirs.

Today is my Freedomversary.

Eight years ago, President Trump granted me clemency and gave me a second chance at life. After nearly 22 years in prison, I walked out the gates and into a future I had prayed for but could no longer see.

I will never forget that moment.

Prison took many things from me, including years with my family and the loss of my parents and a son. But I never lost hope or faith that my life still had purpose.

The gift of freedom came with a responsibility: to help others.

Over the last eight years, I’ve advocated for second chances, supported criminal justice reform, and now serve as White House Pardon Czar.

From a prison cell to the White House, this journey has been possible through God’s grace and President Trump’s courage.

Every day, I strive to honor that gift by helping others find hope and a path forward.

Thank you to everyone who prayed for me, believed in me, and supported me along the way.

A year ago, I was entrusted with a historic calling—to serve as our nation’s first White House Pardon Czar. Last week, I was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Trump Kennedy Center, made possible by @BCFOfficial_ .

From prison to the White House, my life has been a living testimony that people are more than their worst mistake—and that justice is strongest when accountability walks with mercy.

This work is not easy. It is heavy, human work. But every family reunited, every life restored, reminds me why it matters.

Grateful to my family, to President Donald Trump @POTUS , to the @WhiteHouse Counsel team, and to all who carry this work with me.

Today, the President granted pardons to five former NFL players—Joe Klecko, Nate Newton, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, and the late great Dr. Billy Cannon.

As football reminds us, excellence is built on grit, grace, and the courage to rise again. So is our nation.

I was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for a first-time, non-violent white collar offense. As a mother of two, I thought my life was over.

Every day inside, I reminded myself: my loved ones were serving this time with me. My children were incarcerated with me. My husband was incarcerated with me. To cope, I focused on what I could control. I taught classes. I helped develop a parenting program so kids could feel welcomed when visiting their mothers.

After eight years, my sentence was commuted by President Trump, and I walked out of prison into my children’s arms. But I wasn’t truly free, I was placed on federal supervision. I lived in constant fear that one misstep could send me back to prison. For months, I barely left my home.

Even in that fear, I held on to gratitude and used my second chance to fight for others. In December 2020, my supervision ended when President Trump granted me a pardon. For the first time in nearly a decade, I was truly free.

This Thanksgiving my heart is especially full after seeing so many people finally return home to their families — including Anabel Valenzuela.

During the nearly two decades she spent behind bars, the babies she left at home grew into adults. Seeing this mother reunited with her sons after all these years is a Thanksgiving miracle in every sense.

I am also deeply grateful to see David Gentile heading home to his young children, and to see the Sotelo brothers, Edward and Joe, celebrating the holiday with their beloved 88-year-old mother after nearly three decades apart. These are miracles of mercy, and each one reminds us of the extraordinary power of second chances.

And this year, many others made it home as well — mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters who now get to rebuild their lives and rejoin their families.

God and President Trump @POTUS have delivered so many victories for families this year. I am profoundly grateful for the President’s wisdom and leadership, and for David Warrington @counswarrington and the entire team who work faithfully every day to help bring people home.

And we are not done yet.
My hope and prayer is that even more families will be reunited before this year comes to a close.

Every life restored is a blessing.
Every family reunited is a miracle worth celebrating.
