This account is for my uninformed opinions on a list of the 500 best albums according to The Rolling Stones magazine. I’m listening to all the albums starting at 500 working my way down.
Dr. Carter has him essentially aiding rappers who simply aren’t as good as him which is a refreshing take on the classic boastful rapping subject. 8/10
208. Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne
I think Wayne takes several risks on this one that generally pays off. For example Mrs. Officer tells a pretty fun and witty story while having an infectious hook, and
209. Raising Hell by Run-DMC
I definitely think this album by run-DMC is better than the first with a song like tricky, but even with the lyrics that go pretty hard it’s difficult for me to get over the rather cheesy delivery that plagues them as a group. 7/10
210. The Birth of Soul by Ray Charles
Fairly generic but energetic soul record by Ray Charles. This was another compilation album so it does run a bit long for me, but fairly easy to listen to, but nothing groundbreaking.
the sounds on this one are interesting from a deep bass to sometimes shrieked lyrics. Sometimes it was a bit too ominous for me, but very cool nonetheless. 8/10
211. Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
This Joy Division album is intensely unique. There’s nothing I’ve heard that’s quite like it, it has very dark themes throughout, but I truly enjoyed a lot of it. Along with having an iconic album cover,
I also recognized some of this album just from Jay-Z and Kanye samples, and I see why. Not on the album just a side note that she also sang blood on the leaves which is an incredible song. 8/10
212. Wind is the Wind by Nina Simone
I don’t know if I had heard a vocal jazz album before this, but it was hauntingly beautiful. She has a way to weave a story in and out and her voice is low and creeping along.
213. The Idler Wheel by Fiona Apple
This is probably my favorite Fiona Apple record and I think her writing on this is incredibly smart and I love her style in the way she sings and performs her music. It’s quite unique not only what she sings but also how she sings. 9/10
214. Wildflowers by Tom Petty
This was another nice and easy to listen to rock album. I do like Tom pettys voice I find myself liking that the most out of anything else on the album.
215. American Beauty by Grateful Dead
This is an awesome album. From the smooth vocals to the endearing plucky guitars throughout the album this is the model for a folk rock album. From candyman to friend of the devil to sugar magnolia every song on here made me feel at peace
216. Either/Or by Elliot Smith
This album was a quiet and whispery indie album. I didn’t hate a lot of it, but it was hard for me to really get into it because I couldn’t hear what he was saying a lot of the time. Not a bad listen just a little boring to me at times. 6.5/10
217. Definitely Maybe by Oasis
This album was essentially what I expected it to be, just a nice easy British pop/rock album. I liked a lot of the instrumentation that made a lot of the songs feel unique to oasis, unfortunate that wonderwall wasn’t on this one,
218. CrazySexyCool by TLC
This was a fairly normal R&B album, nothing really stood out that much to me. I thought destiny’s child is probably a better group overall, but chasing waterfalls is a banger on this one.
219. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon
Classic Wu-Tang album that goes hard and includes a lot of members. The features are fun and keep the album fresh and fun throughout. I thought the production was good, but nothing groundbreaking 7.5/10
