Publishing pros dispensing dodgy writing advice and first chapter critiques. If you're #amquerying and not sure why you aren't getting requests, we'll help!
Need a first chapter critique? Every other week we have publishing pros come on the show to help aspiring authors see what they can do to polish up their sample pages and get out of the slushpile. https://t.co/y27XdcHoSh
Had a ball chatting with @tazmuir about alternative POV choices, non-consecutive timelines, meme culture, Women Who Suck, and lots of other fun things that went into the Locked Tomb series. Listen here: https://t.co/y27XdcZ0gR

@travelsed @writingwkay that is then hammered out in detail once an author accepts the offer. The fact that they weren’t willing to give any information at all is pretty weird.
@travelsed @writingwkay It’s standard practice when an agent (or publisher) makes an offer for them to provide their contract and give an author time to check in with other interested parties. With bigger publishers it’s usually a general advance, rights, marketing type of thing
@MostlyMcLeod That being said, Marissa Meyer was a Nanowrimo-er, I think? I know lots of people who participate who are published...but Nanowrimo is a writing process thing. The question you're actually asking is probably more like "what percentage of writers actually end up published"
@MostlyMcLeod I think the point of Nanowrimo is just a way to exert external pressure to finish a book because that's so difficult for newer writers, not necessarily to immediately find an agent or publisher. Can't get an agent if you don't have a book :)
@lindsayfickas I saw the beard guy from Dude Perfect at the Jurassic Oceans exhibit at the Field Museum with his family. They were looking at plieosaurs. My kids, who are huge fans, did not recognize him.
Our new episode talking about how to write fantasy concisely with @hollyblack just went up! (Have you read her new adult fantasy, Book of Night yet??)

@tophervivian pantser here! I think a lot of writing advice is best used during revision. I tend to listen to advice with a finished or nearly finished draft in mind and use it to reverse plot and refine my already written story.
