Congratulations to the Health Ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on 20 years of the Baltic Policy Dialogue — a forum that shows how small countries, working together, can lead big change.
Today in Vilnius 🇱🇹, that same spirit is guiding a practical discussion on how investment and reform can strengthen long-term care.
I commended Ministers Marija Jakubauskienė 🇱🇹, Hosam Abu Meri 🇱🇻 and Karmen Joller 🇪🇪for the progress already under way - from stronger family medicine and care at home in Lithuania, to mobile palliative care and integrated home care in Latvia, and Estonia’s work to connect health and social services.
But ageing and demographic change are accelerating. In the EU alone, public health care costs could rise by 12% without investment in healthy ageing - but stay below 1% with the right investment.
The task now – scale what works and build long-term care systems that protect dignity, support families and help people receive care where they live.
