.@karcheruk hi lovely people after picking up nurdles with @LitterMarske today and barely scratching the surface wondered if there was a more effective way. And discovered there is !!!! How do we apply for one of these fabulous things it’s amazing 😀
.@nwater_care@NorthumbrianH2O@JacobYoungMP this was the sanitary waste on the beach after the overflow on Saturday & today you have discharged again . Local volunteers are picking up kilos of waste you have to take some action @sascampaigns
Anyone fancy a spot of nurdling? Some of our volunteers are meeting at 10am on Sunday morning next to the boats to collect as many nurdles as we can.
Bring a bucket, old kitchen sieve if you have one and plenty of patience 🤩
From @LitterMarske volunteers this morning . How can volunteers help keep our beautiful beach clean when sewage is being discharged on industrial scale . Therevharm to human. Health and marine wildlife @mcsuk@BDMLR@sascampaigns
Walking along the beach at #marske we met Elaine & her partner doing a beach clean . The beach is covered in seaweed at the mo& there are lots of nasties tangled up they’d found a syringe , fishing hooks , a huge rope , rusty cans lovely to chat @2minbeachclean@LitterMarske
A @2minbeachclean today coincided with a @BDMLR call our to a seal . Whilst not entangled the balloon string and disgusted plastics do endanger wildlife so we removed from the disposed of @LitterMarske
Perhaps extend this ban to any items likely to be flushed? No need for wet wipes, sanitary goods etc to contain plastic, admittedly condoms may pose more of a challenge..
Today the Government have announced plans plans to consult on banning further single-use plastics including cutlery, plates and polystyrene cups.
The consultation will be launched towards the end of September.

We're pleased to see @Tesco has rolled out recycling points for soft plastic packaging to all large stores.
Customers are now able to recycle packaging such as bread bags, salad bags and crisp packets.

Plastic and sanitary waste almost blocking this outflow on to Marske beach, most will have gone straight through, thankfully @NorthumbrianH2O will be cleaning up.
@NorthumbrianH2O@jaq421 Thanks to Sean from NW we met on the beach today, you will NEVER stop all plastic waste going down toilets though, You need to do more.
This sewage outlet (CSO?) between the 2 car parks on Marske-Redcar Coast Rd is blocked with wipes, sanitary waste and other detritus. Are you going to investigate @NorthumbrianH2O ?
