In a Shelter Sergeant Robert Hayes, Marines, walking out after visiting available dogs. Served with Kg units in Afghanistan 2013-2015. The dog is Max, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois. Max came to this shelter five months ago from a military contractor program. Deemed "too high-drive for civilian adoption." Robert was in the hallway discussing younger dogs Max saw him from kennel #6. Security footage shows Max ramming the metal door. Once. Twice. Third impact breaks the latch completely. Max bursts into the hallway and sprints. Launches at Robert. Knocks him backward into the wall. Both on the floor immediately. Max pressing his head into Robert's chest. Won't move. Robert is crying. "Max. Oh my god, Max. I thought you were still overseas." The director Sarah told us: "That's a reinforced kennel door designed for large dogs. Max broke through it. He recognized Robert from Afghanistan. That's his handler from six years ago." Robert said: "I've been searching for Max for three years. Thought he retired overseas. He broke a door to get to me." Max and Robert went home together in the some day.
