No government should be able to win a big majority on a minority of the vote. Our voting system is warping our politics beyond recognition.
I have joined 65 other MPs in signing an amendment pushing for a National Commission on Electoral Reform.
This is a necessary first step toward building a more representative system - one where power reflects the people, not the quirks of a failing model.

What matters today is understanding what this movement actually is. It is not about fragmenting Iran into identities or causes. There is no such thing as Kurdish Iranian, Persian Iranian, or anything else. We are all Iranian. This movement is about reclaiming a country that was taken from its people.
The argument now is not between rival ideologies. It is about rejecting the old slogans of 1979. Those promises were tested in reality and failed. Most Iranians have learned from that mistake.
Out of that realisation comes a clear demand for the future. A secular country where belief is personal, the state is accountable, national wealth is spent on people, water, health, and dignity, not repression or nuclear posturing, and where no Islamic laws are imposed on society.
That is why Reza Pahlavi matters to many people. He has been consistent for years in saying that Iran future must be decided by a free referendum. He is not asking anyone to accept a system. He is asking Iranians to choose one for themselves.
At its core, this movement is simple. A united Iran, and the right of every Iranian to live freely.
Scrutiny matters, but it must be proportionate, responsible and conducted in good faith.
Opponents now know they must not obstruct a Bill that has both the widespread support of the public and the consistent backing of MPs.

Today, members of the House of Lords passed a motion that demonstrates clearly that it believes the assisted dying Bill - backed by the public and MPs - must be allowed to progress.
The message is clear: Lords don’t want to see this Bill subject to bad-faith tactics.
Leaving Islam can come at a huge cost to #ExMuslims. In some countries that impose Sharia law, apostasy is punishable by death. Initiatives like this are needed to normalise leaving religion, which should be a fundamental human right for everyone.
Humanists are non-religious people who shape their own lives in the here and now because we believe it's the only life we have. A lot of people share humanist values without even knowing the term. Maybe you're a humanist! Find out by taking our quiz! https://t.co/5rjM9sdLSg
When an unelected chamber stalls a bill backed by the elected House of Commons and the public, it does more than delay legislation; it undermines the very principle of representative democracy. This is not scrutiny; it is sabotage disguised as procedure. https://t.co/NYcQvcs3Jp
Many humanists are concerned about the role of toxic masculinity in the war against compassion in society. The topic of this year's Holyoake Lecture could not be more pertinent.

We will remember everyone.
Everyone who fought, who lived, who died, and every conscientious objector, too.
We will remember their sacrifice.
We will remember their belief in freedom, and the common humanity that unites us.
The new rise of Christian Nationalism in the UK – a movement opposing women’s rights, freedom of religion or belief, immigration, same-sex marriage, abortion, and LGBT rights – is NOT representative of the vast majority of the UK, NatCen’s research confirms. https://t.co/OnbVOVkBwb
