Great to work w/ @CityofFlagstaff on long-needed upgrades to #Route66 especially at Woody Mountain Rd intersection with 200+ Timber Sky #AffordableHousing filling up this fall!
Seven months ago, Arizona’s cities and towns had to turn in their housing reports. But in true group project fashion, the state still hasn’t released the results.
$1,000 down payment starter homes in Flagstaff, Arizona. I got to speak to the developer today - he chose to integrate these cottages into a master-planned community where the market-rate houses cost $2m. #Habitat#creation

Great to hear Gov. Hobbs wants SB 1229 to be negotiated! Here's *some* of what we've negotiated ALL based on feedback from League.
1) Increased Minimum Lot Sizes from 1,500 sq ft to 3,000
2) Removed a provision that prohibited mandatory private streets or roads (continued...)
WOW. 1 in 4 respondents considering leaving Arizona because of high housing costs. As legislators, we have a duty to solve this or risk losing our workforce. We passed the Starter Homes Act(SB1229) with bipartisan support yesterday. Let’s get it to the Gov. & signed into law!
My Senate Concurrent Resolution 1002 passed the Arizona Senate 16-11.
(Would not require the governor’s signature; goes straight to the ballot.)
For the long awaited first time, this would LET THE VOTERS DECIDE to PROHIBIT PHOTO RADAR across Arizona… restoring freedom and privacy to Arizona’s drivers.
The League and Mayors oppose the Arizona Starter Homes Act because it “Introduces Apartment-style Density in Single-family Residential Areas”. In the very next breath they also say the bill is not needed because cities are building more apartments.
Either someone didn’t read and understand the language of the bill or the League is using fear tactics to oppose a bill that would bring back smaller homes on smaller lots that create a path to homeownership to our working middle class.
An entire generation is being locked out of homeownership because of exclusionary zoning laws that have made it illegal to build smaller homes on small lots.

The Starter Homes Act(HB 2371/SB 1229) passed House Commerce. It legalizes smaller lot sizes. Our bipartisan coalition is strong & determined. Too many are locked out of the opportunity to own a home and build wealth. It’s time to bring back the American dream of homeownership.
The impact of our new casita law is real & immediate in the lives of people like Diane. City ordinance didn’t cut it, so state intervention ensured she could live in a comfortable, affordable home close to family. I look forward to working on more housing solutions this session.
