I also took the opportunity to visit several museums and collections in search of Roman table legs and other examples of domestic decorative sculpture.
A rewarding week of research, discussion and new encounters!
Last week, LIVART travelled to Athens for the 32nd EAA Annual Meeting! 🇬🇷 @uoaofficial
As part of the panel “Reconstructing the Herm-Landscapes of the Greco-Roman World”, I presented an overview of Roman herms from Hispania.
If you want to learn about the main coloured marbles used in Antiquity for sculptural production,their provenance,and the purposes for which they were employed,you can read my chapter in the book Viajes, comercio e intercambios en la Antigüedad, published by @UNED@dykinsonlibros
This week I am participating in the 19th International Colloquium on Roman Provincial Art with my poster:

A few months ago, my book on the Roman sculptures of Tarragona (ancient Tarraco, capital of Hispania Citerior) was published. It brings together nearly 700 sculptures and fragments found in the city, and is co-published by @universitatURV and @ICAC_cat .

Some highlights from my talk at the recent Digital Classicist Seminar (Berlin, 21 October), held in the beautiful and inspiring setting of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz
@AntikeKolleg@HumboldtUni@bbaw_de
On Thursday 23, I’ll be presenting a paper on the exploitation and trade of coloured marbles in the sculptural production of Classical Antiquity. @UNED
This week, LIVART will take part in the 4th International and Multidisciplinary Congress on the Ancient World (CIMMA): Travels, Trade and Exchanges in Antiquity, organized by the UNED Collaborative Center in Colindres (Cantabria, Spain), taking place from October 23–25.
Next week (Tuesday 21st), LIVART will be at the in Berlin for the Digital Classicist Seminar (BBAW/@AntikeKolleg /@HumboldtUni ), exploring the potential and limitations of 3D digitization applied to Greco-Roman sculpture.
LIVART has also been working at home in two ways: the Department of Classical Archaeology of the @UniBonn hosts the Akademisches Kunstmuseum, which houses a huge volume of plaster casts, some referring to sculptures now of unknown whereabouts.
Particularly noteworthy are the herms and table legs of various types, some of them coming from Egypt and Asia Minor, bearing witness to important productions from the eastern Mediterranean.
Monopodia are among the most beautiful&original Roman decorative sculptures. These table supports, often adorned with divine figures, have Greek origins. Workshops in the eastern Mediterranean exported them across the Empire.
