Dragon Ball has absolutely changed my life for the better, and I'm glad it's still around to this day. Toriyama created something truly special 40 years ago today, and we owe a lot to him.
Happy 40th anniversary, Dragon Ball!
@maximilian_@GamesCage_ The fact that they're just placeholders isn't any better, we should not be chill with gen ai being used in the development of games period
btw not actively going against ai bc "the average person will use it anyways and theres nothing we can do" is such a stupid and defeatist mindset that only encourages ai growth
Why would I care about the ideas in your game if you didn't actually care enough to conceptualize them yourselves?
Do you actually think so little of the art you're creating that you think this is elevating it in any way?
Generating those placeholders still causes unnecessary harm to the environment whether they're used in the final product or not, this doesn't make it any better whatsoever
Any AI assets are used only as placeholders that are being replaced with manually created materials, says the Crazy Taxi: World Tour lead, Kenji Kanno, to Kotaku.
“We used it as a reference, so our artists would pull up [and] generate some of their ideas, and then they would look at that, you know, generated image, and then they would draw the actual thing. So actual creators, everything from programming to assets, everything is made by an actual human. It’s only used as a reference for them to look at, and then they would actually create the actual thing that would go into the game.”
SEGA is far from the first company to use AI for such purposes. While such publishers often face initial criticism, it seems that the tool is becoming the industry’s norm.
#SEGA #CrazyTaxi
@Ockomet2 Tbf Sega has been incorporating AI into their stuff for a while now iirc, they just don't care about the backlash which is why people are making fun of them for it
@DanielS22R@BasedPota18 There are perfectly valid criticisms of the Buu Saga so I don't understand how they chose one of the worst moments to try and slander 💀
How many times do we need to explain that it doesn't matter if it's placeholders or whatever? If it's generative, it's harmful. Gen AI is theft. It's polluting and it's making it so electronic hardware is unaffordable. If you care about even one of those things, don't defend AI
Remember that recent viral tweet that was like "environmentalism is conservative now", and every second headline since then is some variation of "republicans to allow national park to be reduced to smouldering wasteland"
Your United States Congress saw a big jar of this water this week, and declined to help. Same people that cut SNAP and Medicaid.
I just keep thinking about that.
It cannot be overstated the fact that we’re all gonna die for the wealth of like 1000 people max. When the collapse happens, just keep those people in mind.
@MajorRock22 Like idk call me crazy but I can't see Nickelodeon calling up SEGA asking to put multiple of their IPs into Crossworlds, I feel like that conversation happened the other way around
@MajorRock22 I think if anything that's more indicative of the fact that Sonic as a brand could confidently stand on its own two feet around that time whereas nowadays it feels like they announce a new collab every two weeks
Also Nintendo was rocking with the Blue Blur before the Wii U era
