FlatOut 4 VR 1.0 Release!
We’re officially out of Early Access and I’m so excited for everyone to jump into this. We’ve packed a TON into this release, including some surprises that I think longtime FlatOut fans are going to love.
Here’s a little of what’s new:
- FlatOut 2 physics and AI! We’ve brought over the FO2 code as an optional setting you can enable and try for yourself. Really changes up the game.
- Two remastered FlatOut 2 tracks, with updated textures and lighting, plus the iconic Bullet GT with new liveries.
- Improved FlatOut 4 AI, with a big pass on opponent behavior and fixes.
- The Roboquest van, complete with physics-driven dice, and the experimental Scrapworks Mudslinger 450 motorcycle!
- Huge multiplayer overhaul with bots, spectating, and passenger-seat viewing. Fill out races with bots and jump into someone’s car to watch the chaos while you wait.
- Reworked VR menus with consistent point-and-click controls, mirror improvements, new horns, and lots of bug fixes.
- Motion-rig telemetry support.
- An in-game livery editor, plus a powerful open-source desktop editor with simple and advanced modes.
- Steam Workshop liveries and custom vehicle importing. I can’t wait to see what everyone creates!
- Awesome experimental features: weapons (shoot guns out the windows like you're playing GTA VI). These and the motorcycle are still being refined, so we’d love your feedback.
This new world changes indie gamedev.
If you want to protect your code you can’t use Unity or code that compiles to a VM (IL2CPP won’t be a defense for long)
If you want to protect your idea, you need to show off depth of quality content. Simple mechanics will be cloned
The game is leaving Early Access. So is the Early Access price! 🏁
FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR launches in full this Friday, October 23rd

Candidly, @RustmourneGame got one of the biggest responses from our last showcase. The demo's out now and worth playing if you are interested.
I'll have my impressions of the demos for Rustmourne, @RiftedSkies (my arms are tired 🤣) and @PlayRAIDVR on UploadVR soon.
Multiple notable PC VR demos have recently dropped on Steam ahead of next week's Next Fest, including Rustmourne, The Rifted Skies, and Flat2VR's Studio's latest, RAID VR.

A LOT has happened in the VR space these past few weeks.
Steam Frame buzz, Meta’s new thing, banger VR mods, studios closing left and right.
And here we are, working harder than ever on our own stuff.
COVR is far from the only thing we’ve got cooking:
- Zero Caliber 2 on PS VR2 is almost ready for release
- A new Zero Caliber: Reloaded update is on the way, with modernized gameplay and visuals
- We’re making progress on the backend foundations for Frostbite
- And we’re getting ready to open up broader playtests
Wishlisting COVR on either Quest or Steam is probably the single biggest help you can give us right now. Every wishlist genuinely helps!

LAST CALL: I am publishing an article on UploadVR this week about spooky/Halloween themed updates for #VR games. If you know of any such content, comment below.
I'm compiling a list of Halloween/horror themed updates for #VR games for a near-future @UploadVR
article.
These can be easy to miss, so if you are a VR dev, drop a reply or shoot me a DM to let me know what you're cooking.
Everyone else, please share to get the word out. 🎃
We’ve added Steam Frame support - available now in the latest #NoMansSky experimental build!
Eye-tracked foveated rendering is supported and should also work on other compatible headsets, including Meta Quest Pro and Pimax Crystal.

Seeing a lot of this Frame-related frustration and I especially hate it for people who made the reservation queue only to get this follow up kick to the nuts. 😕
Bro this is fucking infuriating.
I was so excited for the Frame, I got in the Reserve list, excpecting that I would be able to get it sooner rather than later and be one of the first to use the device and tell people how it is.
And then *I see this.*
Hello Crystal Pro. Eye-tracked 60GHz streaming over the first 2x2 MIMO wireless link on a VR headset, with up to 6 Gbps and under 2ms of added latency.
VR hasn't delivered the true JRPG experience I've been craving & I'm starting to think it never will, but Ruinsmagus is probably the closest (excluding some dodgy mods of flat games I've tried).
It's on Horizon+ now. Worth a look if you're subbed.
