I get a lot of questions from LPs in the US on the right-to-win of Indian Deeptech startups, especially on the global stage.
Of course, there are two secular tailwinds behind India’s Deeptech ecosystem: 1) Domestic resilience/ sovereign tech as mandated by the govt. and 2) China-alternatives in exports as the world diversifies supply chains.
But what global investors still don’t appreciate enough is the speed, cost advantages & frugal innovation of Indian deeptech startups.
As an example, @AuleSpace set up a space-grade clean room in Bangalore in a few weeks and at a fraction of the cost compared to SoCal space-tech startups.
On top of speed & cost advantages, the beauty in 2026 is that top-tier local engineering talent is now choosing to stay back and leverage these advantages to build with global ambitions.
Plus, the current immigration regime in the US is also pushing postgrads to return and join these startups. Case in point: as @Liwaans builds @CosmicportSpace at the edge of Southern India in Thoothukudi (formerly Tuticorin), he has convinced multiple US university grads to return and join him while living in this small town in Tamil Nadu.
Despite India deeptech becoming increasingly consensus over the last 2-3 years, courageous pre-seed & seed capital that also brings global company-building expertise is still in relatively short supply.
In addition, most investors are still extrapolating the past manufacturing Achilles heel of local companies and therefore, are still not underwriting the global export potential of these startups going forward.
I believe that Indian Deeptech companies will create outcomes significantly larger than what most investors are currently modeling and given entry prices at seed & Series A are still quite low in them, there is tons of Alpha here that is yet to be mined.
Two years ago, this was just an idea, a small team, and a bet that we could build launch vehicles powered by #methalox propulsion from Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
No lab.
No existing infrastructure.
Just a conviction that the hard path was the right one.
That bet became @CosmicportSpace.
This week, that belief turned into our first cryogenic hot fire.
