@lailaarchuleta This is such a true and painful statement that the violations of human rights are about control. There has never been an instance in my understanding of history that this hasn't been the case. People seem to always in this perpetual struggle of wanting control. #H1180
@lailaarchuleta This!! I agree with this as well. You don't find it in papers and "knowing" the most, but rather through lived experiences and in how you decide to live your own life. I think this is really something that needs to be more acknowledged and "known" as well.
@lailaarchuleta I agree with balance being necessary for happiness being a construct in modern society. It may fall even further back than just modern society. I think it is really pushed now however
I think that this in particular really affects all modern societies. Especially American politics when we look at all the different rhetorics being use alone and how much that can affect how people perceive their reality. #H1180
U6 Reading Response: In Alexander&Wood they define history as a "related to collective rather than individual memory" and i find this really fascinating because so much of what we know about history is from these individual perspectives that we are shown #H1180
I really agree with Jelin on their point that "The construction of official histories turns out to be particularly problematic when dealing with contemporary or recent events, especially when they are marked by deep social and political conflicts." #H1180
I find it interesting that people were not bothered by the corruption, but by the extra lies that came after as a response to it. It is interesting to see that people are more bothered by that, an extension of the corruption rather than the corruption itself. #H1180
U6 Response: I think that the podcast "Quit Already #47" brings up a really solid point of stating Guatamala had a war that lasted for 30 years and that hundreds of thousands of people were killed by the government. They also acknowledge how recent this was "1996 recently" #H1180
How that is used and how they are charged with ridiculous lies that came after. For example, Lucia was accused of "looting an environmental fund" and then she would respond with things that were very much not true but that no one would check on. #H1180
@jacobwcrisp @lailaarchuleta @CNMBrandon I am still trying to wrap my head around it as well so you are good! I too was "Thinking aloud." I just think that the ability of it to so quickly spiral and change is what may pose a problem. Which I think could potentially effect the way some trade happens, which i could also
@Denis30431830 It was really interesting seeing their "logic" behind the coup, some of it being their thought that despite he had been elected democratically that they would slowly deconstruct it to create a fascist state. #H1180
@elsangelabusti1 The timeline of the Cold War I find interesting. Especially since it is usually defined as only between the US & Russia, yet we see the effects it had on Latin America in the states' attempt to allow zero creation of footholds anywhere within North America. #H1180
@jacobwcrisp @lailaarchuleta @CNMBrandon usable anywhere that you have access to technology? These types of currency do not have "borders" like traditional paper or coin money. #H1180
@jacobwcrisp @lailaarchuleta @CNMBrandon because of the new found force behind things like cryptocurrency. Bitcoin already has a strong hold, but there are SO many others that are being created, and things like that are being incorporated into the digital art. How would one even fathom regulating a currency currently
@lailaarchuleta I think that the impact of this is still not fully understood or known by others, despite there being a film about it, which you would think would make it more "accessible" or "known." #H1180
